Encrypted Data Vault
Personal data kept off-chain, encrypted and time-limited.
What it does
Identity documents and reports should never be written to a blockchain. The Encrypted Data Vault stores them off-chain, encrypted, and releases them only with the user's consent and to the parties they approve. Data is time-boxed and erased when a credential expires, so the chain only ever holds non-personal, expiring references. It is planned for SBX ID, with distributed storage on SBX GRID capacity in future.

How it works
The vault sits behind Verifiable Credentials, holding the documents a credential was issued from. Keys are protected with the same approach as MPC Custody, and storage is designed to run on SBX GRID capacity in future.

Step 1 of 3: Encrypt. Documents are encrypted and stored off-chain, never on the blockchain.
Key capabilities
Encrypted storage
Documents are encrypted at rest and in transit, and kept off-chain.
Consent-based access
Platforms read only what the user has approved, for as long as approved.
Time-boxed retention
Data is erased automatically when it is no longer needed.
Nothing personal on-chain
Only hashes and expiring references are anchored on the blockchain.
